Here at Himinbjörg, we are immersed in breathtaking natural surroundings, with the majestic Snæfellsjökull glacier and volcano standing as a watchful guardian over us. Our accommodation, offered alongside the courses, includes six specially equipped guest rooms, each with single beds. A maximum of six participants allowed in the course. This course focuses on engaging deeply with nature, emphasizing the experience of its elemental forces—landscape, sea, sky, and light. Field trips to nearby areas will serve as creative inspiration, aiming not to replicate forms, but to capture and express these forces. As Paul Klee famously said, “The task of painting is not to render the visible, but to render visible.” Students will explore painting as a way to reveal unseen forces in nature.The course prioritizes autonomous painting, mastery of materials, paint handling and the dynamic relationship between the conceptual and practical aspects of painting. It is designed for advanced students who are refining their personal approach to painting through critical and experimental methods. The course concludes with a group review, fostering a vibrant discussion where students reflect on and critique each other’s work.The daily schedule runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., beginning

with a 40-minute morning discussion on the philosophical and aesthetic dimensions of painting. A lunch break is held at 12 p.m. Materials are flexible and can include oil, acrylic, or watercolor. If using oil paints, artworks can be stored on-site for up to two weeks or shipped to the city via a carrier. Please note that materials are not included in the course fee, except for cleaning supplies like brushes and tools. Students are welcome to continue working in the studio during the evening at their leisure.

Unterkunft: 6 Einzelzimmer in 2 Ferienwohnungen ( direkt neben dem Atelier von Bjarni Sigurbjörnsson und gegenüber dem Atelier) mit jeweils drei Schlafzimmern mit jeweils drei Einzelbetten, eine Dusche/Bad pro Ferienwohnung. Die Küche befindet sich in der gegenüberliegenden Ferienwohnung. In der Ferienwohnung neben dem Atelier befindet sich nur eine Teeküche, die zum Kochen nicht geeignet ist. Im Atelier kann rund um die Uhr gearbeitet werden, auch nachts.

Der Preis beinhaltet Unterkunft (s. o.), Nutzung des Ateliers, Unterricht täglich von

9–17 Uhr mit kleinen Pausen; kleine Exkursionen in die nähere Umgebung, darunter

auch zwei größere Exkursionen, sowie zwei Einkaufsfahrten in den 80 km entfernten

Discounter-Supermarkt in Stikkisholmur. Ebenso ist der Transfer vom Flughafen Keflavik

nach Hellissandur (Fahrtdauer ca. 3 h) im Preis eingeschlossen.

Im Preis nicht enthalten: Malmaterial, Verpflegung (es muss selbst gekocht werden),

Eintrittspreise für Museen, Schwimmbäder etc., Flug nach Reykjavik und zurück,

eventuelle eigene Autoanmietungen etc.

Wie immer empfiehlt die Akademie bei solchen Reisen eine Reiserücktrittsversicherung
